Nevada Trails for Green Hour Activity!

November 29, 2009

A great website for searching on Nevada trails is nvtrailmaps.com for running, hiking, biking, mountain biking, cycling, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and even more activities. You can search by location (county), activity, length of trail and elevation. Easy way to explore possibilities for spending some Green Hour Time with the kids and grandkids. 🙂

The information and maps on the nvtrailmaps.com website are developed and organized by Great Basin Institute.

I Love My Shape-Ups!

September 30, 2009

My walking buddy and I have been wearing our Sketchers Shape-Ups for about a month and a half now while we do our walk. We are sure they are making a difference in our bodies. Our pants are loose and our legs look better than they have in a long time! We are having fun, too! Renee Moilanen wrote an article With new workout fashions, fitness is on a roll about these various shoes for working your body that was in the Long Beach Press-Telegram and I see it is on the web multiple times as well! I don’t know about not going to the gym to workout because I do that, too. Actually, it is sometimes interesting to wear these shoes as I work out in the gym because my balance point is different. I think it’s fun! On momlogic.com there is a blog about Shape-Ups. Here is the Sketchers website info. walking.org likes them, too!

I love my Sketchers Shape-Ups! I feel my posture is better. I know my butt and legs have felt the work-out and I think they are looking much better – just in the month and a half or so that I’ve been wearing them. I try to walk 3+ miles 3 times a week. People have also commented about my weight loss – but I have been watching what I eat so to lose the weight as well. The shoes are fun to wear. I wear them all day long. I even work out in the gym with them – gives a whole new balance act performance. I would recommend them to anyone trying to get a few more calories wrung out while going through their busy day.

Walking – Favorite Exercise for America

June 10, 2009

Richard Seven wrote Walking Toward Well-being: America’s Favorite Exercise in The Seattle Times. It’s fun, easy and inexpensive! An hour of walking outdoors with the grandkids counts as an hour of outside activity for Go Play Outside!!

Richard’s article had a link to find a walkers group if you’re interested joining one — or starting your own — see http://walkers.meetup.com. You can enter your own zipcode to find groups near you – or see a list of people interested in joining one if you would start it! There are all kinds of interesting groups: for example, a Tacoma walking-with-dogs group, or a collaboration of Redmond/Kirkland moms-with-strollers.

Activities in the Sierra Nevada

April 28, 2009

There are all sorts of activities to do in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The Virtual Sierra Nevada website is quite exhaustive: gold panning, hiking, skiing, biking, horseback riding, backpacking, kayaking, river rafting and more. Then there is lots of sightseeing as well – Yes, there are LOTS of little towns: Reno (biggest little), Truckee, Virginia City, Lake Tahoe, Mammoth, Bishop, … and beautiful parks like Yosemite, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, oh, I’ll get myself in trouble by trying to list them all and forgetting some so I’ll stop while I’m ahead…..check out the linked websites!!

Working Out with FitnessWorkx

April 8, 2009

Grandpa Ron and Grandma Sue try to work out twice a week with Nick Rians at FitnessWorkx in Huntington Beach, CA so we can be fit to keep up with Grandson Austin when we are with him. FitnessWorkx has a neat exercise program on-line you can check out since most of you are probably not easily able to physically visit Huntington Beach!! They also have a blog site with healthy tidbits of information. Ok, so now you find out I’m somewhat of a health nut!
