Here are several maps of the Station Fire showing its tremendous size. Anonymously posted on that website is a comment that official fire information for the Station Fire is at Inciweb.org (Incident Information Web). You can follow their tweets from that site too.
Pretend City Children’s Museum
August 30, 2009Pretend City Children’s Museum, designed for children from infants to 8 years old, opens today in Irvine, CA. Their educational philosophy is “Children learn best when they’re actively having fun at it!” Erika Chavez of the Orange County Register raves about it! Her 4 1/2 year old daughter loved it! I coould not find today’s newspaper review on-line so here is an earlier review from the beginning of August. It’s great fun for the younger kids.
I Can See The Station Fire 60 Miles Away!
August 29, 2009We have so many forest fires burning around LA right now! It has been very, very hot and extremely dry. Here are two pictures I took at 8:11 pm tonight (Saturday, Aug 29) from our deck. The Station Fire in the Angeles Forest has been burning since last Thursday. It is getting closer and closer to LA. The links give the details. I hope and pray people stay safe. Many people are not evacuating when they are told to. JPL is threatened. Television and radio towers are threatened, too. Some stations are already dark, according to one article I read. The view from the Mount Wilson Observatory webcam is here.
We can see the whole ridge is on fire – and we are 60 miles away! The flames are to the right of the big white building, which is the Long Beach VA Hospital. TVNZ coverage here.

Here are photos of the horses. More info is available at Griffth Park Horse Rentals Trail Rides details and Frequently Asked Questions at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center.

The first article in the series is here and the second one is here. Some of the places I have already blogged. There are some great suggestions for other ones, too.

Teenage Quail
August 23, 2009Photos of Bunny at Bird Feeder
August 22, 2009Ok, so we’ve had bear, squirrels, voles, mice and rabbits at our bird feeders lately. This morning we discovered a bunny rabbit munching away and I got a few pics from around the corner and through the window screen (inside the house) before he scampered away.
This morning we woke up to find this critter munching away at the quail food. Bunny feels somebody looking at it from inside the Big People House. Can’t see ’em but can sense ’em!Bunny is caught in mid-hop as it runs to hide.
