Here is a fun look at the Plankton in the ocean that look like Christmas decorations, snowflakes and angels. It was a neat surprise to find it on the Monterey Bay Aquarium blogsite.
Here is the series on environmentalgraffiti.com by Michele Coilet using photos by Dr. Richard Kirby, a Royal Society Research Fellow at the University of Plymouth.
The Monterey Bay Aquarium has a display of Sea Drifters in the Outer Bay that has been there quite awhile and is now going to get a new look – so you can visit the drifters until May 1. Here is a neat video on Jellyfish from the aquarium.
Check out ideas and activities to do with kids on https://mygrandmasue.wordpress.com by the author of the award-winning children’s book Grandpa, Do It! I Do It, Too!

The new exhibit Hot Pink Flamingos is now open at Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey, CA. See how climate change is affecting our oceans and the life within them. If you don’t live within visiting distance, there is still great information and exhibits on-line to explore.
I include lots of ideas of places to visit and activities to explore with children on mygrandmasue.wordpress.com, so do check them out! 🙂

The Aquarium of the Pacific, one of my favorite aquariums, just blogged how many whales they’ve seen on their outings this summer. They have some pictures, too. They saw all kinds of whales: Blue, Fin, Minke and Humpback!
Tomorrow the aquarium is having their great Seafare Evening. Should be pretty awesome.
Here is their on-line Learning Center.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium sent a letter yesterday about the plight of the sea otters. Here’s the aquarium’s page on Southern Sea Otters. Check out The Otter Project, too!
The Sea Otter Research and Recovery Act (H.R. 556) passed in the House late Tuesday afternoon by a vote of 316 to 107. Now the bill moves to the Senate; we’ll be sure to let you know when the time is right to ask for support from your Senator.
Here is the aquarium’s on-line Sea Otter Exhibit page and another page about sea otters with a video and activities. Here’s another video, too.

Another one of my favorite places in Chicago is (guess!) Shedd Aquarium! Another aquarium! I should have majored in oceanography! The on-line exhibits are interactive and quite interesting.

OK. I haven’t done a good job getting good stuff out on the East Coast. One of my favorites is the National Aquarium in Baltimore. So enjoy this website. It is fun to travel around as well! I love the multilevel walkway along one of the big tanks.

There is a great aquarium to visit on line or in person in Long Beach, California as well. Check out the Aquarium of the Pacific to see all of the neat exhibits and activities there. The seahorse exhibit is awesome! I still love the jellyfish, too!
