Here are some amazing stories of Los Angeles from KCET. One is on the Los Angeles River produced with Friends of the Los Angeles River and the students from the Los Angeles Leadership Academy. Here is one on Eagle Rock produced with students from Occidental College. The one on Watts produced with students from Watts High School. The first one in the series is on Boyle Heights.

I don’t remember how I found this blogspot but it had an interesting interview with the twin authors of The Siblings’ Busy Book that I just ordered for my daughter. It has at-home activities that keep the interest of brothers and sisters of different ages while they are creating something together.

The Great Reno Balloon Race is this weekend. The visitrenotahoe.com site has all kinds of pictures and info. The Reno momslikeme.com sponsored The World’s Largest Pajama Party this morning with Farmer’s Insurance. Today I have several links for indoor activities for kids or grandkids. My daughter says it will be raining this weekend in Portland, so here are some home-spun fun ideas. SimpleMom.net has a list of indoor activities. eHow has another fun page of all kinds of activities. Orato.com has a list of 10 Best Rainy Day Games For Kids as well. Pretend City Children’s Museum

August 30, 2009

Pretend City Children’s Museum, designed for children from infants to 8 years old, opens today in Irvine, CA. Their educational philosophy is “Children learn best when they’re actively having fun at it!” Erika Chavez of the Orange County Register raves about it! Her 4 1/2 year old daughter loved it! I coould not find today’s newspaper review on-line so here is an earlier review from the beginning of August. It’s great fun for the younger kids.


Reno Mountain Bike Race

Galena Fest 2009 is a new event in Reno for cycling enthusiasts! Competitive mountain biking in the hills above South Reno at the Galena Creek Regional Park.

The race takes place Sept. 27, 2009, from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. with several events for mountain bikers of every age and skill level.

Activities include
The Bloody Rose Mountain Bike Climb to Relay Peak
The Thorn Mountain Bike Climb to The Wall at Sky Tavern
Kids’ Mountain Bike Race through Galena Creek Regional Park and
Big Fish Contest at Marilyn Pond

The event will raise funds to keep Galena Creek Regional Park accessible and safe and re-establish outdoor programs at the Park.
