Just got a phone call about an Earth Day Celebration tomorrow, April 18, 2009, at the LA Water Replenishment District Offices in Whittier, CA, from 10 am until 2 pm.
Earth Day 2009 is a free community-wide event that seeks to promote environmental awareness and education for the whole family. The event features educational booths, interactive workshops, water recycling tours, puppet shows, train rides, arts and crafts, activities for children, and entertainment such as music, an environmental magician, and more. Learn what you can do to conserve and protect the environment!
Take the Crossroads exit off the 60 Freeway and follow the signs! The link has a map!

Grandpa Ron and I are members of the Tahoe Rim Trail Association which maintains and enhances the trail around all of Lake Tahoe! As of April 17, 2009, the trail is still snowed in! See the Tahoe Rim Trail website for lots more interesting information about hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding on the trail.

OK, Michele told me about the Ice House Trail on Mt. Baldy and how great it was for hiking with little kids. I found this great write-up of the trail. There is also a link to Bob and Nancy Ulrich’s Hiking pages. Unfortunately, not all of their photos come up on my machine, but for hikers there are lots of ideas available!
BUT then I clicked on MountainBikeBill.com who also rode the Ice House Trail – only this one is in Utah. BUT, he has an AWESOME site with totally awesome pictures in his blog and on his trail descriptions. You do not have to be a mountain biker to enjoy his site. Check it out!

Grandpa Ron was wondering why I have not put any TRAINS on the blog yet! He found his December 2008 Model Railroader magazine and said: This new museum in Greeley would be neat if you could find the website. Ha! That was an easy challenge for Grandma Sue & Google! Here is a pre-opening video on the web by Skip Weythman. Here is the main wesite of the museum which has not only a link to the Model Railroader magazine but also some awesome scenery photos, as well as other train buff stuff!

Co-worker Kevin immediately offered Greenfield Village as a favorite place he remembers from his childhood. Well, it is no longer just Greenfield Village. As you will see by following the link, it has been christened with a new name – The Henry Ford, America’s Greatest History Attraction. It has the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile in its collection of vehicles! The link I found for this article is from a very interesting site called Roadside America.com. It has the sort of places on it that Michael the angel (John Travolta) in one of my favorite movies Michael would want to do visit, like the World’s biggest ball of string or the the World’s largest tire.

Central College is a very special place for me. Check out my separate page tab on Central for my explanation! Check out the Virtual Tour of the campus. Click on the Campus and Pella tabs first.
Tulip Time is just around the corner – May 7, 8 and 9th!! There are all kinds of family activities to participate in and watch: parades, windmills, tulips, Dutch Letters (pastries)!

I heard about this on the radio this morning and found the KaBOOM! website. Julianne Hough, two-time winner of Dancing with the Stars, and Mercury Nashville recording artist, wants your help finding every playspace in America. For each valid playspace you add to database, she’ll donate $1 to your cause — and you’ll be entered to win great prizes, including a trip for four to meet Julianne!
National Causes:
YMCA
Shaping America’s Health
America’s Promise Alliance
Jumpstart
National Wildlife Federation
First Book
Here’s the KaBOOM! Blog

Grandpa Ron and I visited Seven Falls on our way to catch a plane out of Colorado Springs Airport one cold, blistery day. The guy who took our money warned us we weren’t going to get our money back if it was all frozen over. Luckily, it wasn’t! It had enough ice to make it magical. It was a great visit! Visit Seven Falls yourself virtually here.

One of my co-workers, Marian, remembers the Colorado Mint being one of her favorite places to go. While looking it up, I found this informative website about all kinds of activities to do in Colorado for FREE!
