Dogs Move Too!

June 23, 2009

If you know a family with children that will be moving soon, there is a cute book called Dogs Move Too! written from Max’s point of view that may help alleviate any fears the children may have about moving. Max is helped in telling his story by his ‘parents’ Anthony M.T. Majewski (Author) and Julie Majewski (Illustrator). Max is a five-year-old yellow English Labrador Retriever. He shares his thoughts, activities and photos as he makes his move with his human family. His conclusion is that if he can move, kids can move, too! Check out his website, too!

The Bucket List

June 22, 2009

Hmmmm…the buzz is beginning about Grandpa, Do It! I Do It, Too!. After the reading at Wayfarer’s Chapel last Sunday, one listener likened it to the movie “The Bucket List” in that you understand the deeper meaning contained within – when you ponder the simplicity of the situations and the significance they have later in life – given similar personal experiences you had yourself with your own grandparents. After the reading several people, most of them grandparents themselves, thanked me for putting into words all the kinds of experiences they had and their wonderful thoughts and memories they have of their grandparents.

The children at Long Beach Day Nursery also reacted very positively to the story last Friday. During the reading, most of them were very eager to share their own experiences with their grandparents or at least with static electricity – and the plastic slide! In fact, they voted to have me read it to them a second time!

Both readings were a lot of fun! NEW PHOTOS

Weekend is Over!

June 22, 2009

I’m sad! Our quick, long weekend wth Austi and family is at an end! We just got out of the pool and now it is time for them to pack up and head back to the airport! We had so much fun in this SHORT period of time! We even made it to DISNEYLAND! Now we must plot the next visit! And it is hopefully soon!! Grandchildren are so special!!

Visiting the Hollywood Sign

June 19, 2009

Yesterday Austin and Mommy, Daddy, Grandpa Ron and I went to view the Hollywood Sign. We went up to the Griffith Observatory. It is a great spot to see it, but it was a bit cloudy so our pictures will need Photoshop help to fix the contrast. We had a great time though. Austi also enjoyed climbing all the steps at the observatory!

Mountain Deals – Aspen, CO

June 16, 2009

The Long Beach Press Telegram carried an Associated Press article by Catherine Teal about the great bargains and beautiful scenery to be enjoyed if you visit Aspen, CO in the non-ski months. I couldn’t find the article on-line, so you’ll need to check out the Aspen Chamber of Commerce website for details. There are 50% off deals for booking over a Wednesday night. What sounded awesome to explore is Maroon Lake in the Maroon Bells wilderness area; however, it sounds like everybody is doin’ it from the USDA Forest Service website. Shuttle buses are in service to help with the traffic jams. This news release from 05/19/2009: On-Mountain Activities, Camp Aspen/Snowmass and Bluegrass Sunday Line Up for Summer 2009 captures oodles of summer events to include Silver Queen Gondola rides, alpine sightseeing and hiking, mountain biking, skateboarding, rock-climbing wall, camping, guided hikes and walks, disc golfing, fishing, backcountry hikes and Hatha yoga, storytelling and campfire sing-alongs.

Father’s Day Wayfarer’s Chapel Service to Include Grandpa!

June 15, 2009

I am reading Grandpa, Do It! I Do It, Too! as the Story Time part of the 10 am Sunday service on June 21, Father’s Day at Wayfarer’s Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. If you’d like to meet the characters in the book, Grandpa Ron and Austin, they will be there. Also planning to be there are the special people I mention in the acknowledgement page at the end of the story: Cyndi, Pam, Victor and Katherine. NEW PHOTOS

Here is Google Map to get you started in the right direction! (Only seems to work in Internet Explorer. Mozilla crashes when you click this link. Same thing happened when I clicked the link on the location page map link for the chapel. Mozilla users try Mapquest instead!)

Father’s Day Gift for Grandpa

June 14, 2009

Monday is probably the last day to order my book Grandpa Do It! I Do It, Too and get it in time for Father’s Day from Amazon.com or BookSurge Customer Service. Amazon.com and BookSurge.com only sell the soft cover copy. By calling BookSurge Customer Service, at 1-866-308-6235 Option 6, you can order a soft or hard cover copy – but the hard cover is printed-on-order and then bound into a hardcovered book. Glue drying takes time! So, it won’t be ready in time for Father’s Day. So, get a soft covered one! 🙂

Wisconsin Dells

June 13, 2009

As a child living and learning in Wisconsin, I knew the Wisconsin Dells were the only part of Wisconsin that did not get flattened and scraped by the ancient glaciers. Very much later in life I explored them a little bit. The Wisconsin Dells are great for family expleriences galore! The Wilderness Resort website has all kinds of ideas for activities.

Green Hour

June 12, 2009

Lots of my past blog posts support this concept – the Green Hour. Here is the Green Hour website encouraging parents to get their children playing outdoors for at least an hour a day. It is a program sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation.
