Grandparents Day – Sept 13
September 1, 2009Jimmy Carter declared Grandparents Day a national holiday in 1978. Grandparents Day is the first Sunday after Labor Day. Read the history on Grandparents.com. There is a whole page of info all about it!
What impact have grandparents had on you?
If you are a grandparent, what impact have you made on the younger generations?
My first book Grandpa, Do It! I Do It, Too! is all about making an impact – whether you know it or not! It makes a perfect Grandparents Day present for a grandpa who has a grandson. (Granddaughter will be born at the end of December 2009 – so then we’ll create a granddaughter book, too!)

I Can See The Station Fire 60 Miles Away!
August 29, 2009We have so many forest fires burning around LA right now! It has been very, very hot and extremely dry. Here are two pictures I took at 8:11 pm tonight (Saturday, Aug 29) from our deck. The Station Fire in the Angeles Forest has been burning since last Thursday. It is getting closer and closer to LA. The links give the details. I hope and pray people stay safe. Many people are not evacuating when they are told to. JPL is threatened. Television and radio towers are threatened, too. Some stations are already dark, according to one article I read. The view from the Mount Wilson Observatory webcam is here.
We can see the whole ridge is on fire – and we are 60 miles away! The flames are to the right of the big white building, which is the Long Beach VA Hospital. TVNZ coverage here.

My Daughter Is Expecting A Girl!
August 12, 2009So, it will be a girl! Cyndi found out today that the baby is a girl! Austin already told her it was a girl! He is ready to have a little sister! Now to wait to see if she is a late December baby or an early January baby! 🙂

Bears Get Our Reno Bird Feeders!!
August 8, 2009We realized all was not well with the finch and quail feeders when we arrived at our Reno house around 12:19 am this morning but we decided to wait till we got up in the morning to investigate and went to bed. It sure looks like a bear decided to take in all the thistle seed in our two finch feeders. One was pretty mauled and has multiple teeth marks. We saw bear prints in the mud one wet spring a few years ago so we guessed a bear again had come visiting …after investigating bears and bird feeders more on-line, we are sure of it!
This youtube video looks like what probably happened at our feeders – only our walls got in the way!

So, given the tooth holes in our feeder, the actions of the bear in the first youtube video fit our situation perfectly – yank, bite, bite! Yank, bite, bite, yummy thistle seed…… me want more, be back soon!
