Reducing Toddler Behavior Problems
November 18, 2009Sometimes the best of our children or grandchildren get into what we adults would call ‘bad behavior situations.’ Sometimes it seems we’ve tried everything to straighten it out — but the bad behavior continues. Here is some interesting on-line reading to ponder over and to maybe give you some fresh ideas or concepts to try if you have a little one you are working with.

Ethics for Toddlers
November 17, 2009Today’s radio commentary by Michael Josephson isn’t on his website yet. – It was about instilling ethics and building character in the very young by example and struck me as a topic for my blog tonight – but this story is close. – Or maybe today’s been such a bad day that this was the lesson and I don’t remember any more!
Here are some other interesting links to read up on how to help your toddler develop a good character:

Most important is what your toddler sees you doing – actions speak louder than words – and whatever you do, your toddler wants to do, too!

Library Visit
November 13, 2009Today Austin and I spent two hours at the library reading lots of different books that he picked out. The day was rainy so we stayed inside! It was a lot of fun! He would pick several books out and hand them to me. Then we sat in the Children’s Room and read them together. Then he picked out some more. We read them. Then I thought he was done but he pulled out a book he recognised from school called Ladybug Girl by Jacky Davis (Author) and David Soman (Author, Illustrator) and he wanted to take it home to show Mom. BUT I didn’t have Mom’s library card with me and he had to write his name to get his own card, so the librarian suggested we either put it on 3 day save or go up to the Reading Room to read it. Austin decided to read it NOW so we made it up the stairs to the Reading Room only after side-stepping for Austin to grab a transportation picture book and a horse picture book as well. So that was another hour or so.
At the end we signed a hard-cover Grandpa Do It! I Do It, Too book and donated it to the library – since it is HIS library after all. That was fun, too!

Santa Monica Pier Now Terminus of Route 66
November 12, 2009Santa Monica is getting the moniker of the West Terminus of Historic Route 66. From the LA Times article: “The highway’s original end point in 1926 was at 7th Street and Broadway in downtown Los Angeles, according to Glen Duncan, president of the California Route 66 Preservation Foundation. A decade later, the road was extended to Olympic and Lincoln boulevards in Santa Monica.”
Here’s some fun stuff on Route 66.

Falling Stars
November 10, 2009This last weekend Grandpa Ron and I saw two falling stars! Seeing one is special so we were really surprised to see two. Then I did a little research and it seems we are in the midst of two meteor shower time spans – the Taurids and the Leonids. November 10th is the start of the Leonid Meteor Shower with the peak on November 17th. Gee, we could probably see many more if we sat outside and waited for them! Here’s lots of info from universetoday.com. Becky Ramotowski in San Antonio records: ‘Shooting stars’ come out to play in her blog today. Also check out Meteor Mark.
Meteorshowersonline has a scientific page on both Taurids and Leonids. Have fun!
