One of my co-workers, Marian, remembers the Colorado Mint being one of her favorite places to go. While looking it up, I found this informative website about all kinds of activities to do in Colorado for FREE!
Streets of Long Beach Formula Drift Round 1 for 2009
April 13, 2009Grandpa Ron and I had fun at the first round of the Formula Drift season held in Long Beach last weekend. We met up with Al Rios, a close family friend and lead mechanic for the Drift Patrol car driven by Dan Pina. We all had dinner at Papalucci’s with Tony Brakohiapa and his crew and talked about the day’s events. Tony came in 7th so he has a great start for the season. Here is Tony’s video from last year. Dan will be back next week (and I think Tony will be, too) for the team drifting that will be going on as part of the Long Beach Grand Prix. I’ll try to get some photos uploaded soon.
The Grunion Run is On!!
April 12, 2009What is a Grunion Run????? Grunions are little fish only found along the Southern California Coast and northern Baja California. There are all kinds of jokes about going to see the Grunion Run along various CA beaches because it happens late at night. However, 2009 Grunion Night is a special event at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, CA. There other fun activities on the calendar, too!
Children’s Museums
April 11, 2009On a rainy day (and there are a lot of those in Portland, OR) Austin and his friends love to visit the Portland Children’s Museum. He even had his first birthday party there.
Last weekend in Monterey, CA, we discovered the My Museum where the kids were totally having fun.
As a kid, Austin’s Mommy enjoyed the Children’s Museum in San Jose, CA.
All of these children’s museums are just awesome places to explore! While on the internet I stumbled on the My Museum.com for the Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley in Bryan, TX. It has some very interesting activities as well.
Co-worker Leslie says her grandson absolutely loves the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana, CA. Check that one out, too!
Found a Told U So blog entry for the Children’s Museum in La Habra. That traveling exhibit of “Ring of Fire” (through June 14) looks fun, too! The blog has LOTS of ideas on it, as well!
The Tucson Children’s Museum has several fun exhibits. Here are some pointers.
At the Carson City, Nevada Children’s Museum there are lots of interesting programs going on as well as the on-going exhibits.
Chicago Museum of Science and Industry
April 10, 2009One of the main recurring events of my life while growing up in the Chicago area were the annual school trips to The Museum of Science and Industry. I loved the the great train layout exhibit and the doll house fairy castle exhibit. There are so many really cool exhibits these days….. check some of them out right here!
A Quiet Place – Wayfarer’s Chapel
April 10, 2009One of my favorite peaceful places in the Los Angeles area is Wayfarer’s Chapel in Palos Verdes. The grounds and gardens are absolutely beautiful to walk around. The expansive ocean view is awesome. The chapel, designed by Lloyd Wright, is one with the redwood trees surrounding it. Grandpa Ron and I also enjoy the 10 am Sunday worship services when we are in town. Check out the Wayfarer’s Chapel website to see what I mean! I’ll get some pictures on soon.
Exploring Mono Lake
April 9, 2009Mono Lake in California is a very interesting lake to visit. There are unusual formations sticking out of the water. Here is a list of activities to do for free or little money around the lake. The Mono Lake Committee Gift Shop, located on Main Street in Lee Vining, CA, is full of really neat mementos, gifts, books and native American Indian items.”http://www.monolakecommittee.org/”>
The Portland Children’s Museum and The Oregon Zoo
April 9, 2009The Portland Children’s Museum is a fun place to go on a rainy day. The kids can paint their faces and do all kinds of fun activities. It is right next to the Oregon Zoo.
Working Out with FitnessWorkx
April 8, 2009Grandpa Ron and Grandma Sue try to work out twice a week with Nick Rians at FitnessWorkx in Huntington Beach, CA so we can be fit to keep up with Grandson Austin when we are with him. FitnessWorkx has a neat exercise program on-line you can check out since most of you are probably not easily able to physically visit Huntington Beach!! They also have a blog site with healthy tidbits of information. Ok, so now you find out I’m somewhat of a health nut!
Portland, Oregon YMCA
April 7, 2009Another one of my favorite places – because they take such good care of Grandson Austi – is the YMCA of Columbia-Willamette. Their programs are very special to many people.
