You are in for a treat if you haven’t done this before — you should check out the the Washington DC fireworks on PBS Television on the Fourth of July! The last two years were just AWESOME!! PBS TV runs the program live and then re-runs it again for those who missed it! Here is the link: http://www.pbs.org/capitolfourth/
I just found food beautifully photographed to make your mouth water on a wonderful website for people having to or trying to live gluten-free. You must check out Gluten-Free Girl and the Chef! Shauna’s story on her About page is endearing. Her writing style is easy to read. And those photos!!!! And recipes!! And lots and lots of stories!! The website is VERY informative. She has lots of links for further information as well. AWESOME!
I have been going through my own medical mire. So, I’m re-reading my Dr Mark Hyman books (because I have been following his Ultra- concepts for several years now – but not completely to the letter – more as they meld into the Mediterranean diet and more protein/less bad fat/more good fat diets), re-assessing my daily supplements and routines, and getting all kinds of tests done. I found Gluten-Free Girl and the Chef as a link on Hyman’s website. Hopefully, we’ll figure my problem all out soon. In the meantime, since my gastroenterologist told me to stop all medicines, vitamins and supplements in prep for “the procedure,” I figured whatβs one more thing – I’ll stop the gluten and the high fructose corn syrup even more than I already had, too. It seemed to be making a difference but then I had to change my diet in preparation for today’s colonoscopy. Since my follow-up appointment is in two weeks, I’m going to use these two weeks to cut out gluten and high fructose corn syrup to see what happens.
I want WARMTH!!!! I cannot believe it is the second of June and it is snowing here in Reno! We had snow showers yesterday, too! I had planned to garden this whole week but it is too cold! – For me and the plants!! 39 degrees at 9 in the morning and right now at 10:50 am, it is 43 degrees – brrrrr! On the news last night, someone said we should change the name of this month to Junuary! THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMP IN RENO ON THE 2ND OF JUNE IS SEVENTY-EIGHT DEGREES.
Grandpa Ron calls it a grandparentβs book. I call it a children’s book. Read it and decide for yourself! The kids enjoy talking about the activities and details in the pictures. The adults remember their own special moments β either as kids with their grandparents or as grandparents with their grandkids. Dads and moms get their own flashbacks, too!
The Marble Bluff Fish Passage Facility is located near Nixon, NV at Marble Bluff Dam, on the delta of the Truckee River where it ends at Pyramid Lake. The Cui-ui are spawning in large numbers this year. This endangered sucker fish is found only in Pyramid Lake in Nevada. There is a series of locks, ladders and bypasses to help the fish get up the Truckee River to lay their eggs. Jeff Delong of the Reno Gazette-Journal has a front page article With cui-ui thriving, the whole river teems with several great photos – one with a whole flock of white pelicans waiting for the fish to fly out of the water right into their mouths…well, almost! This year may be a record run thanks to all the winter snow we had.
There are several you-tube videos of the fish ladders from last year’s run. Here’s one. When it is done it will show you more choices as well.
One fun weekend project you could have with your young family members – if you are in the Reno/Sparks, NV area – is to make a bird house from an ‘easy’ (or a ‘more complex’) bird house kit available for purchase at Rail City Garden Center at 1720 Brierley Way in Sparks. They also had a blog post on building bird houses. Here is some on-line help from Birdwatching-Bliss and kits from Bird Watching Now.
Grandpa Ron and I have to laugh at this Heron who visits this boat more often than the real owner does. Here is his normal stakeout spot in the marina. Then I took a closer and closer photo. It is not like I have to be quick about it! He stays there for hours! We think he’s a Great Blue Heron. Can anyone confirm or correct us?
What a beautiful royal wedding! I must admit I got up at 1:30am to watch the royal wedding live on TV yesterday….and I watched almost all of Barbara Walters’ special that started at 9pm before I had to crash. After all, I still put in a 10 hour work day as well! No nap in between for me!
I am a Diana fan. Since I was in England for the Charles and Diana wedding (and watched it on the telly!), I had to watch this one, too! Loved it! Especially the double kisses on the balcony!
